Collaborators
The Collaborators page lets you manage who has access to your game. You can invite team members, track active invitations, and manage permissions.
Team Roles
Component.Studio has two types of team members:
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Owner |
|
| Collaborator |
|
Equal Editing Power
Both owners and collaborators have the same ability to create, edit, and delete designs, datasets, components, and other game content. The main difference is that only owners can manage team membership.
Viewing Team Members
The Team Members card displays everyone who has access to your game, organized by role:
- Owners - Listed first with a green "Owner" badge
- Collaborators - Listed below owners with a "Collaborator" badge
Each team member shows:
- An avatar with their initials
- Their name (if provided) or email address
- Their email address
- Their role badge
- A remove button (owners only, for removing collaborators)
Inviting Team Members
Only game owners can create invitations and invite new team members. Collaborators do not see the invitation section.
To invite someone to collaborate on your game:
Click the "Create Invitation Link" button in the "Invite Team Members" section. The invitation link will be automatically copied to your clipboard.
Send the invitation link to the person you want to invite via email, chat, or any other method. The link looks like: https://component.studio/invite/ABC123XYZ
When they click the link and accept the invitation, they'll be added to your game as a collaborator with full editing access.
When you create a new invitation, the link is automatically copied to your clipboard. You can paste it immediately into an email or message.
Managing Active Invitations
After creating invitation links, you'll see them listed in the Active Invitations section. Each invitation displays:
- Usage count - Shows how many times the link has been used (e.g., "0/1 used")
- Expiration date - When the invitation will expire (7 days from creation)
- Copy button - Click to copy the invitation link again
- Revoke button - Click to invalidate the invitation link
Invitation Limits
Each invitation link has built-in limits:
| Limit Type | Default Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum Uses | 1 person | Each link can only be used once. After someone joins, the link becomes invalid. |
| Expiration | 7 days | Links expire after 7 days. After expiration, the link can no longer be used. |
Day 1: You create an invitation link. Status shows "0/1 used".
Day 3: Your teammate clicks the link and joins. Status shows "1/1 used" and the invitation is marked as fully used.
Day 8: The invitation expires. If it was never used, it's no longer visible in the active invitations list.
Copying Invitation Links
To copy an existing invitation link:
- Find the invitation in the Active Invitations list
- Click the copy button
- The link is copied to your clipboard
- A "Copied!" notification appears
Revoking Invitations
If you need to invalidate an invitation link before it's used or expires:
- Find the invitation in the Active Invitations list
- Click the revoke button
- The invitation is immediately invalidated
- Anyone who tries to use that link will see an error
Revoking an invitation happens instantly with no confirmation. The link becomes invalid immediately and cannot be restored. You'll need to create a new invitation if you change your mind.
Removing Collaborators
Only game owners can remove collaborators. Owners cannot be removed from a game.
To remove a collaborator from your game:
Find the collaborator in the Team Members list and click the x button next to their name.
A confirmation dialog appears showing the collaborator's name. Click "Remove" to confirm.
The collaborator is immediately removed and loses all access to the game data.
If you remove someone by mistake, you can create a new invitation link and send it to them to restore their access.
Leaving a Game
Only collaborators can leave a game voluntarily. Owners cannot leave their own games - ownership transfer is not currently supported.
If you're a collaborator and want to leave a game:
Scroll to the bottom of the Collaborators page to find the "Leave Game" card.
Click the red "Leave Game" button.
A confirmation dialog warns you that you'll lose access. Click "Leave Game" to confirm.
You're immediately removed from the game and redirected to your games list. The game will no longer appear in your games list.
After leaving a game, you cannot rejoin unless a game owner sends you a new invitation link. Make sure you really want to leave before confirming!

Best Practices
Create Invitations On-Demand
Generate invitation links only when you're ready to share them. Since they expire in 7 days and can only be used once, creating them ahead of time isn't necessary.
One Link Per Person
Each invitation can only be used once. Create a separate link for each person you want to invite.
Clean Up Old Invitations
Revoke unused invitations if you no longer need them. This keeps your Active Invitations list clean and prevents accidental use of old links.
Communicate Before Removing
Let collaborators know before removing them. Removal is immediate and they'll lose access without warning.
Coordinate Departures
If you're a collaborator planning to leave, let the owner know so they can adjust their workflow accordingly.
Security Notes
- Invitation links are secure - Each link has a unique code that's difficult to guess
- Links expire automatically - 7-day expiration reduces the risk of old links being used
- Single-use links - Each link can only be used once, preventing sharing
- Immediate revocation - You can invalidate links instantly if needed
- All collaborators have full access - Only invite people you trust, as they can edit all game data
Anyone you invite as a collaborator has complete access to view, edit, and delete all designs, datasets, components, and other game data. Only invite people you trust completely with your project.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Can't see the "Invite Team Members" section | You must be a game owner to create invitations. Collaborators don't see this section. |
| Invitation link shows "1/1 used" but person didn't join | The link was used but perhaps by someone else. Create a new invitation link. |
| Can't remove a team member | You can only remove collaborators, not owners. You must be an owner to remove anyone. |
| Can't leave a game (no "Leave Game" section) | You're likely an owner. Owners cannot leave their own games. |
| Invitation expired before they could use it | Create a new invitation link. Invitations expire after 7 days. |
| Accidentally removed someone | Create a new invitation link and send it to them to restore their access. |
Summary

- Owners can invite collaborators, remove them, and manage invitations
- Collaborators have full editing access but can't manage team membership
- Invitations are secure, single-use links that expire in 7 days
- Access changes (adding, removing, leaving) happen immediately
- All collaborators have equal ability to edit game content
Use the Collaborators page to build your team, coordinate with designers, and manage access to your game project.
